Johann Theodor de Bry (1528-March 27 1598.) Belgium. Oldest son of German printmakers, engravers and publishers, de Bry was famous for his depictions of early European expeditions to the Americas. Having fled the Spanish Inquisition, he moved around Europe, settling eventually in Frankfurt. His works are on view at the Rijksmuseum, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art, among others.
